Help out a little Ewok in his quest

The role of the Ewok is to preserve the Life Energy of the Forest. He believes that one source of your professional life energy is through active membership in a professional nursing organization. He has provided you an accessible list at http://www.nurse.org/orgs.shtml
Magnet Force #8: Consultation and Resources addresses professional organizations and their promotion and involvement.
This little Ewok is wanting you to share with him the Professional National Nursing Organization(s) you are currently enrolled and use as your nursing life energy force. Also, he would like to know if the literature and support from the organization(s) has benefited you in your professional nursing practice and how. Include in your posting if you are a member of your state nurses association. Thank you and he sends an Ewokie warm fuzzy for sharing your professional life energy with him.

I have been an active member of The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) for the past 26 years. The monthly-published journal enables me to keep knowledgeable of new surgical techniques and equipment on the market. In addition, the publication informs perioperative nurses of revisions in standards and guidelines that regulate perioperative care. The organization is a great resource and support for issues that may arise in day-to-day practice. AORN has an annual conference held at different locations around the country. Attending nurses are exposed to new technology by vendors, updated and research based presentations from qualified speakers and experts in their fields, and sessions during the entire week that provide not only valuable information regarding perioperative nursing but also provide CEU’s for attendees. A national AORN council meets annually uniting perioperative nurses from around the globe. I have recently joined the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the Alabama State Nurses Association. I have found the ANA website a valuable resource during research. I strongly support membership in your professional practice organization. They provide an excellent source of information, growth, and support becoming the nurses professional life energy.

I am a member of my state nursing association and the ANA. I strongly believe that the role of a professional means active membership and support of one's state and national nursing organization. I am also a strong supporter of nurses being members of other nursing organizations (speciality, STTI, etc.). The benefits far out way costs of membership. For the price of a coke a day, I can keep abreast and an eye on the actions of my state and national leaders. While I do not always agree with leaders at the state and/or national level, I support them as I have a voice and can exercise that voice when I do disagree.
